0.82㎡ architecture' by ryo yamada
japanese architect
ryo yamada has presented his latest work titled '0.82m architecture' where three 0.82 square meter structures are positioned as if they were placed around a small yard, with a small terrace and a chair. the idea was conceived from the definition of a tea ceremony, one of the most important traditional and cultural activities conducted in japan. each participant of the ceremony follows a ritual of preparing and drinking tea on half of a tatami mat space (0.82 meters squared), using the small space to reflect as though it are a spiritual space of concentration and diffusion. each formation is designed without a roof. although it is a simple construction, the sense of viewing the infinite sky through the installed mirror allows us to feel that a part of our body is in perfect harmony with nature. the composition will end up becoming one with the forest as it will slowly be covered by plants. as each structure is blanketed with greenery, they will become the smallest place as a contact point between people and the woods where we are able to imagine the infinitely-expanding landscape.
