paying attention to the pre-existing, natural conditions of the site, the design integrates the land and trees into the museum's aesthetic presence. the exterior surface, finished in a rusty-red coloured concrete, play off the shadow cast by its surrounding, highlighting its subtle strokes and texture. a pair of pyramid-shaped towers anchor the facility's profile,
lending a dramatic identity to the project.
four wings of varying heights and sizes are composed around a central display space reserved for temporary exhibitions. in addition to a 200-seat auditorium, the museum hosts a shop, cafe and garden. paved with the local blue-grey marble of cascais, the 750 m2 exhibition space provides a fresh and neutral backdrop to the displayed art.
