for the football fans of the world, the 'toluca house', a weekend home at the base of a mountain overlooking a soccer field is a dream come true. designed by FR-EE / fernando romero enterprise, the residence is shared amongst several families and is equipped for use as a clubhouse, offering the best in sports accommodations and private living. a large green roof structure dictates and orders the spaces below and creates a micro-ecosystem that collects and recycles rainwater. two internal open-air courtyards contain lush green walls that disappear into a reflecting pool, a dramatic 
piece that helps define a rational organization of space: a peripheral circulation with a central hallway that bisects the floor plan. a generous terrace wraps around the glass facade providing plenty of opportunities to observe the valued sport from either indoors or outdoors, for large or small groups. the living spaces include a living room, dining room, play area, home cinema, small spa, and kitchen.  the horizontality of the house allows it to keep a small profile in front of the steep mountain and relates to the proportions of the pitch below it, perfectly mediating the horizontal and vertical
characteristics that flank the structure. a solar array on the canopy harvests renewable energy to power interior lights and fans that circulate air. large sliding glass doors naturally ventilate the house and the concrete floor slab provides active and passive radiant heating.
